ARCHIVED - 17 in Murcia reported to the police for disobeying coronavirus quarantine orders
Even patients isolated in their homes fail to respect lockdown!
There have been numerous cases of members of the public failing to obey the coronavirus lockdown restrictions in Murcia and venturing out into the streets without adequate justification for doing so, but it is shocking to learn on Wednesday that the regional ministry for Health has found itself obliged to inform the forces of law and order of 17 patients who were confined in quarantine in their homes and still decided to enjoy a breath of fresh air.
It is hard to believe the irresponsibility of these individuals, seemingly unaware of the threat they are causing to the health of others, and the police are under instructions to investigate each reported case and take whatever action is needed to ensure that confinement orders are obeyed. It has been clarified that the offenders identified include not only people who have tested positive for Covid-19 but also others who are in quarantine after having been in close contact with confirmed carriers of the virus.
This news was given on Wednesday morning by Manuel Villegas, the minister for Health in the regional government, during his daily update on the latest situation, in which other data include the fact that at present 30,000 people are being monitored by telephone: these include 15,834 who have been in contact with others who have tested positive and another 13,854 possible cases.
Sr Villegas also stressed the utmost importance of taking simple precautionary steps such as washing food with soap or disinfectant if it is to be eaten soon after purchase, and above all of RESPECTING THE LOCKDOWN FULLY.
The latest data in the Region of Murcia show that 67 new cases of Covid-19 were confirmed on Tuesday, taking the total to 1,041. Among these there have been 37 fatalities and 43 recoveries, while 304 people have been admitted to hospital for treatment including 57 in intensive care.
Remember: LOCKDOWN MEANS LOCKDOWN. STAY AT HOME. STAY SAFE AND DO YOUR BIT TO REDUCE THE SPREAD OF CORONAVIRUS.

What to do if you are in the Region of Murcia and believe you may have contracted the virus
The regional government has set up a special helpline to supply information to members of the public (900 121212) if they suspect that they may have contracted the virus rather than going straight to hospital or to a medical centre.
Sensible precautions
The advice being issued to members of the public by medical authorities all over the world coincides on the following points:
- Wash hands frequently with either soap and water or a sanitiser gel
- Catch coughs and sneezes with disposable tissues – and throw the tissues away immediately after use before immediately washing your hands!
- If you don’t have a tissue, use your sleeve – and wash the item of clothing used at the next opportunity
- AVOID touching your eyes, nose and mouth with unwashed hands
- AVOID close contact with people who are unwell
- Don´t panic!
