ARCHIVED - 16th and 17th November, annual dog show at IFEPA in Torre Pacheco
ARCHIVED ARTICLE
Over 2,000 dogs with lots of trade stands and demonstrations and a pet fair in the Salón de la Mascota
The IFEPA exhibition centre and showground in Torre Pacheco is the scene for all things canine over the weekend of 16th and 17th November as the major annual autumn dog show, the Exposición Internacional Canina de Murcia, takes place
Thousands of dogs will compete in the many canine pedigree beauty competitions and there is a vast programme of demonstrations of dog obedience, dog intelligence, dog agility, dog training, dog rescue, dog care, dog grooming, trade stands selling everything to do with dogs, doggy photocall … to cut a long story short, it’s dogs, dogs and more dogs in the exhibition centre over the weekend!
This is always a huge event covering 27,000 square metres, with 22 showrings, and is very well attended. This year visitors are welcome to join presentations on various breeds including Spanish water dogs, collies, schnauzers, French bulldogs, teckels and others.
The latest edition features 2,000 dogs not only from both Spain but also from various other countries and the judging is to be in the hands of 20 expert judges from Spain, Rumania, the UK, France, Finland and other European countries.
Alongside the dog show in the “Salón de la Mascota” there are also other attractions including a falconry display, a cat centre (with animals awaiting adoption), a bird show, pony rides, racing pigeons and others, and visitors are welcome to attend with their own pets and even present them in competition, where prizes will be awarded in various categories. In addition, ample opportunities are provided to adopt a pet, rather than purchasing expensive animals in pet shops.
Opening times and ticket info
The Exposición Internacional Canina opens on Saturday 16th November from 9.00 to 20.00 and on Sunday 17th from 9.00 to 19.00. Tickets are priced at 6 euros on the door but can be purchased for 4 euros using the discount voucher which can be downloaded here.
Paid parking is available behind the showground, and flat shoes are highly advisable as those who wish to save even more money for dog treats generally park anywhere within a half kilometre radius of the centre and walk in.
