ARCHIVED - 13 deaths and 264 new cases; Murcia Region coronavirus Friday 20th
This is the lowest daily figure for over two months
The number of new coronavirus cases has continued to fall all week in the Murcia Region as the effects of the restrictions imposed on the hostelry sector two weeks ago and other measures implemented continue to impact on the daily infections rate.
The number of new cases on Friday in the region was the lowest for over two months, and the percentage of PCR tests returning a positive result has fallen to a third of the levels delivered last week.
Just 264 new cases were diagnosed within the last 24 hour period;
Of the 264 new cases in the Region of Murcia in the last 24 hours, 72 correspond to the municipality of Murcia, 26 to Cartagena, 20 to San Javier, 16 to Yecla, 15 to Caravaca de la Cruz, 13 to Torre Pacheco, 12 to Jumilla, 11 to Los Alcázares, 11 to Lorca, 10 to Puerto Lumbreras, 9 to Alcantarilla, 6 to Mazarrón, 6 to Mula, and 5 to Cieza. The rest are distributed among various locations in smaller quantities.
AI rate
This brings the average number of cases over 100,00 over the last 7 days down to 199.3 across the whole of the region and 579 across the last 14 day period.
Yecla remained at the top of the list with 676 cases and Fortuna at the bottom with 39 (Ojós and Ulea have no cases). This AI list has become increasingly important in determining the progress of the virus and is one of the key markers being used to determine which municipalities are able to re-open their bars and restaurants; an added incentive for those living locally to stay indoors and get case numbers down!
25 is the target level at which the WHO considers the virus to be under control.
Fatalities:
Unfortunately, the high number of cases during the last month has fed through to a considerably higher death rate in this second wave than in the first and yesterday a further 13 people died from coronavirus in the region, bringing the overall total of deaths to 533 : 8 men and 5 women aged 75, 83, 89, 80, 85, 84, 87, 69, 85, 96, 88, 86 and 78: two from Villanueva, two from Caravaca, two from Murcia, and the rest from San Pedro del Pinatar, Cartagena, Albudeite, Aledo, Alcantarilla, Ceutí and Alguazas.
Hospitalisations:
The good news this week is that the pressure on the regional health service has been slowly descending and this trend continued on Friday as the total of patients hospitalised fell by 37 to 534, with the number in intensive care remaining the same as yesterday; 109. The number of patients in home isolation with mild symptoms has dropped back down below 10,000 to 9,884.
Recoveries: The total number of recoveries is now 38,205 and the total number of cases diagnosed since the beginning of the pandemic 50,862
PCR tests: Although the number of PCR tests taken in the last 24 hours was lower than last week; 4,687 tests, the most important information to come out of this is that the percentage of positives has fallen to 5.6%. Last week the rate was averaging around 15%, which means that three times the number of cases would have been diagnosed from the same number of tests as have been detected this week. This shows that the percentage of the population who are positive is falling, good news, as it decreases the chance of casually contracting covid through contact.
Regional data:
Positive cases yesterday: 264
Confirmed cases since the beginning of the outbreak: 50,862
People currently affected: 10,418
Home isolation: 9,884
Total hospital admissions: 534
ICU admissions: 109
People cured: 38,205
Deaths: 533
Tests performed: 470,057 PCR / antigen and 78,537 Antibodies
