ARCHIVED - Perimeter confinement of the Valencia Region will continue until December 9th
The regional president has confirmed that the remainder of the measures applied against Covid-19 will also remain in place until at least that date
Although the Covid-19 situation in the Valencia Region appears to be stabilizing, the regional government is taking no chances and has announced that all of the measures currently in place will be maintained until at least December 9th including the perimeter confinement of the region.
Regional President Ximo Puig said on Tuesday that he intends to maintain the perimeter confinement of the Valencian Community (external borders closed, no-one in and no-one out other than for essential reasons) at least until Wednesday, December 9th, which is after the important Puente de la Constitución.
This year the main day falls on Sunday December 6th, so its holiday has been moved to Monday 7th December.
Monday December 7th, Monday, is a bank Holiday holiday in the following areas of Spain: Andalusia, Aragon, Asturias, Balearic Islands, Canary Islands, Castilla y León, Extremadura, Madrid, Murcia, Navarra and La Rioja, as well as in the Autonomous cities of Ceuta and Melilla. In all of these communities there will also be a holiday on December 8th, the Day of the Immaculate Conception.
Although neither the central nor the autonomous governments have yet made an official statement, the director of the Center for the Coordination of Health Alerts and Emergencies, Fernando Simón, said at a press conference on Tuesday that these holidays "cannot result in an increase in infections.“
It’s widely expected that the autonomous regional governments will decide to keep their "borders" closed to prevent the population moving around the country as this is generally a popular weekend for short breaks, and city dwellers will often head to the coast for a holiday, something all of the regional governments are keen to avoid during this period of the covid crisis.
This appears to be the date that Sr. Puig is targeting, Wednesday 9th falling after the Puente de la Constitución holiday.
With the extension of the confinement, all of the restrictive measures that were taken with the aim of reducing the accumulated incidence of coronavirus infections are also extended.
Last Wednesday the prohibition to leave or enter the borders of the Valencia Region (with the exceptions exceptions in place) was extended until November 20th, but the regional government now wants the period to be extended in December, so as not to have to make constant weekly extensions.
The Murcian regional Government has yet to confirm whether the Region of Murcia will maintain its external border controls until this date. Regardless of its decision, this means that Murcian residents will be unable to cross into the Alicante province other than for essential reasons until this confinement has concluded. The main point which will affect Murcian residents is travel to Alicante airport; this is permitted as an essential journey to pick-up/drop-off passengers, but it is important to print off flight information to be able to justify a reason for travel to the airport.
